Setting a learning goal is easier when you can see the road. Here is a simple map.

Ages 5 to 10: play first

Start with block-based coding in Scratch: make a character move, tell a story, create a quiz. Aim for twenty minutes, two or three times a week. Our Scratch course has 35 free projects.

Ages 10 to 14: build real things

Move to HTML and CSS to make web pages, then Python for logic and games. Add Micro:bit or robotics projects to see code control the physical world.

Ages 14 to 18: build a portfolio

Learn JavaScript to make pages interactive, set up a GitHub profile and publish three projects. A portfolio shows more than a certificate.

Adults and teachers

Pick one goal: build a simple website, automate a spreadsheet task or make an Android app. Learn by making that one thing.

Habits that work at any age

  1. Little and often beats one long weekend.
  2. Make something every week, even tiny.
  3. Read error messages calmly; they tell you where to look.
  4. Show your work to someone.
