In August 2023 Techbase began a coding and robotics programme across the three campuses of Baptist Model High Schools in Lagos: Isolo, Ijegun and Ikola. It was our first programme to run across several campuses of one school group, and it let us design a curriculum that builds over several sessions.
What students learned
- Scratch for the logic of programming.
- Python for data handling and problem solving.
- HTML, CSS and JavaScript to build interactive web pages.
- GitHub for saving and sharing work, with each student setting up a professional profile.
- A personal portfolio website to show what they had made.
Certificates and portfolios
At the end of each term, students earned certificates of participation. More importantly, they finished with something they could show: a portfolio site and projects they had built themselves.
Why it matters
A student who leaves school with a small body of real work stands out from one who has only attended lessons. It also builds the confidence to keep learning.
